S2 Design and Make |
Course Descriptor
Pupils will receive one period a week of Design and Make for ½ the year and similar for Graphics. During their period in Design we aim to cover significant aspect of learning (SALS) developing introductory skills from S1:
Throughout pupils will learn about the different design principles and terminology. They will gain a good understanding of the use of graphic sketching to demonstrate product design ideas. These basic introductory skills will form a sound foundation for the S3 Design and Manufacture course.

- Continued look into the design process - Covering what is an open and closed design brief, specification, Analysis, initial ideas and developing an idea.
- Introduction to further research and new idea generation techniques.
- Freehand sketching for 2D & 3D representation of design concepts.
- How to apply colour and tone to an everyday object for a more realistic graphic representation.
- Practical Designing
- Basic 3D modelling using a range of modeling materials.
- Introduction of team work to complete tasks
- Model testing and evaluating
